Horripilation
That single word...THE word...was our undoing in Sunday's Spirited Spelloff Spectacle, a local spelling bee to fundraise for the Athens Literacy Council.
My team, The Basement Spellers, came in third.
We had a great time and I even got a bit of knitting done. Want proof?
I have to say, it was exhausting. We made it through 13 rounds...the 14th brought THAT WORD and undid all of our hopes of being champions. We were beaten by a group of reference librarians, so I don't feel so bad.
And the word? Here's a definition.

35 years ago, I was the only one in my high school senior class to make 100% on the Senior Spelling Contest. I've often thought that it would be fun to get into a spelling bee before my brain turns to mush and I can't spell any more. :)

I love that word!! I have made a mental note and will try to use it in a sentence sometime soon. So, you say that you don't feel so bad that you were beaten by a pack of reference librarians - yet, you came in 3rd. Who else beat you? And by you, I mean a team of English PhD's .......
