Thursday is KAL Day!

...and the only day I'm posting, apparantly!

No pics today--I'm deep in the thick of things (LOL--I accidentally typed "think of things" first, which seems fitting).

The only KAL's I'm working right now are the Mason-Dixon and the Project Spectrum. I am working on a super-secret (to this blog, anyway) MDK project which is most emphatically NOT green, so I can't count it toward my PS knitting. I did, however, finish the Cedar socks (finally!), so those go in the green column for me!

In Other News

Steve and I are travelling to NY next week for my sister's graduation--hi Em! This will be Steve's first trip, so we'll be hitting the touristy high points (which I love!). I have, however, made a preliminary list of yarn shops so that I'm prepared if we find ourselves in proximity ("Oh, sweetie, can we run in for just a minute?" she says with her fetching gaze). On my list? School Products, Habu, Seaport, Yarn Co. Any other suggestions?

Falling at Your Mercy

I've tried to suss out what the issue is with the blog archive/entry pages (that weird formatting business), and I can't seem to figure it out (see post-before-last where I talked about simple knitting).

If any of you know something about this business, could you have a look-see? I think the Dec. 2005 archives here are correct, but everything else is wrong. The source code for the Dec. entries seems to call a different file. My head hurts.

I'll sort it out eventually--but if you know from this stuff, I'd appreciate an email.

Hellz Yeah

You scored as Elinor Dashwood. As Marianne's older sister, Elinor lives at the other end of the emotional spectrum. She rarely reveals her intense feelings and is more concerned with being honest and loyal than having what she deserves. Even though her intentions are pure, she sets herself up for loss by constantly placing other people before her own needs. Overall, Elinor is gentle and rational but is just as capable of radical emotions (despite her withholding them) as her sister.

Thursday is KAL Day!

Well, it's supposed to be, anyway. I've been a lousy updater lately. In my defense, I'm trying to write a dissertation.

First, an amusement. Get thee right now to YouTube, where I want you to watch The Ten Things I Hate About Commandments. WARNING: if the "f" word or parody of a religious Heston film will offend you, DON'T CLICK THE LINK!

OK...now the updating:

Sockapaloooza

I really enjoyed knitting socks for Faith at The Needle and the Damage Done. You can see her sock modeling here--particularly loved the multiple shots !

I was lucky enough to recieve a fabulous (and sinfully lucious!) pair of purple socks from Jenny! Jaeger Matchmaker Merino....mmmm. My toes feel very loved in this yummyness.

Project Spectrum

It's a month of Green! So I'm knitting or have knit

Green Trekking sock (OK--it doesn't LOOK green, but there's quite a bit of green in there)

Socks Falling on Cedars (had to rip one out and redo, so I'm counting it)

And, segueing into the next one...

Green Baby Bib

Mason-Dixon KAL

Yes, I joined that KAL. Still haven't posted to the blog, but I've knit a bib (see above) and the Heartbreakingly Cute Baby Kimono, both gifts to be given ASAP.

Kimono, in Blue Sky Organic Cotton. 2 skeins. Not as small as the one in the book, because babies grow fast.

I've got materials for more bibs, dishcloths, bathroom accessories (linen, gorgeous linen for towels and a curtain), and a scribble lace scarf. I love this book. I really want to get going on an afghan.

Other Knits:

I'm also knitting a Pi Shawl in gorgeous red Merino D'Oro doubled. It is delicious.

And, I must point out, it fits with the general theme of my knitting these days, which is simple, simple, simple. My brain just can't handle anything too complicated. Even my pleasure reading has been on the simpler side. But I'll chat more about that this weekend. Tomorrow I head to Clemson to give a paper at a conference.

Just Like the White Winged Dove

I've been singing Stevie Nicks's "Edge of Seventeen" an awful lot lately. Whenever I walk into the women's clothing area of any store, I seem to be surrounded by gauzed-tiered-flounced skirts. Even in the fabric section--I've actually seen bolts of pre-tiered fabric with the elastic sewn in. You just buy enough to circle your waist, sew a seam to close it, and wear. Indulge your gypsy fantasies at will.

More soon...pics of Sockapaloooza goodies and FO's to come!

"but the moment... that I first laid
eyes....on....him...all alone...
On the edge of...seventeen."

Running

I'm running alot these days. Not the healthy, good, booby-jiggling running. The crazy, automotive, wear-you-down running. I did finish the Sockapaloooza socks. I am kntiting green things. I am pulling my hair out. More later when I get my to do list under control.

GAH!

I'm currently reading Jean Vanier's Community and Growth and came across this passage:

We have to try to hold our tongue, which can so quickly sow discord, which likes to spread the faults and mistakes of others, which rejoices when it can prove someone wrong. The tonge is one of the smallest parts of our body, but it can sow death. We are quick to magnify the faults of others, just to hide our own. It is so often 'they' who are wrong. When we accept our own flaws, it is easier to accept those of others.

Sigh. I am so very guilty of this tongue-death-sowing business. It's hard to see yourself.

So far, a rough-on-the-reader, but good, read.

New MT

I've upgraded my Movable Type, but I can't really see any difference. I suppose that's a good thing...

ETA: I guess I needed to post something...it's all different now. Sigh. I have to rebuild all those links...

ETA2: The individual entry & archive pages are weird. I don't have time to get into the CSS today, but I'll fix it ASAP. Let me know if anything else isn't working/looking right.
